Dr. Luis Alberto Ortega Porcayo, M.D. Neurosurgeon Specialized in Skull Base and Minimally Invasive Endoscopic Surgery. Master in Bioethics | Centro Médico ABC, Mexico City.
Dr. Ortega Porcayo is a distinguished neurosurgeon and academic whose career has been defined by a relentless pursuit of excellence in skull base surgery, endoneurosurgery, and medical education. With advanced training across three continents and a commitment to ethical practice, he bridges the gap between surgical precision, translational research, and leadership in healthcare.
Born with a passion for medicine, Dr. Ortega earned his Medical Degree from Anáhuac University in Mexico City, followed by a transformative internship in Israel at the Soroka Medical Center (affiliated with Ben-Gurion University). There, he gained early exposure to global healthcare systems and multicultural patient care—an experience that shaped his collaborative approach to medicine.
His residency in Neurosurgery at Mexico’s prestigious National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery "Manuel Velasco Suárez" solidified his technical expertise. Under the mentorship of leading surgeons, he investigated the biomechanics of brain tumors, culminating in a pioneering thesis on meningioma rheology, which explored predictive models for tumor consistency and surgical outcomes.
Driven to master minimally invasive techniques, Dr. Ortega pursued elite fellowships, including:
Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine (New York) with Dr. Mark Souweidane, a global leader in pediatric neurosurgery.
Endoneurosurgery and Skull Base Fellowship in Mexico with Dr. Gomez Amador, where he developed a novel training model for endoscopic procedures—later published as his master’s thesis.
An observership in vascular microsurgery with Dr. Juha Hernesniemi in Helsinki, learning from the legendary Finnish pioneer of aneurysm techniques.
Beyond the operating room, Dr. Ortega is a dedicated educator and strategic thinker. He holds a Diploma in Senior Business Management from IPADE Business School, equipping him to navigate healthcare systems with an executive lens. Further, his Master’s in Bioethics reflects his deep commitment to patient-centered care and ethical dilemmas in neurosurgical innovation.
Today, Dr. Ortega continues to advance the field through research, teaching, and international collaboration. His work—spanning surgical simulation, tumor biomechanics, spine surgery, neuro-oncology, and endoscopic surgery—aims to improve safety and accessibility in neurosurgery worldwide. His career embodies a fusion of technical mastery, academic rigor, and humanitarian values.
