Medical Student
UT Health San Antonio, Long School of Medicine, US
Laureen Raelly-Muze, BS, is a third-year medical student at UT Health San Antonio. She earned her bachelor's degree in Neuroscience from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. Prior to medical school, Laureen's interest in neurodegenerative diseases drove her to participate in Alzheimer's disease disparities and recruitment research at the Indiana University Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. Her work with the IADRC, coupled with her childhood experience growing up in Zambia, has shaped her interests in health disparities and global health.
Laureen's passion for neuroscience and her inclination to work with her hands naturally led her to pursue neurosurgery. She has been deeply inspired by the mentorship she’s received from neurosurgeons, whose guidance has further strengthened her commitment to the field. She created a mentorship program aimed at supporting underrepresented students through the transition into medicine and has actively participated in various health equity initiatives and global health experiences during her time in medical school. As she continues to pursue neurosurgery, she aspires to contribute to research on health equity within the field and to serve as a mentor to those who follow in her footsteps. In her spare time, she enjoys reading all kinds of novels, live music, and exploring the outdoors.
