Sierra Lyles is a third-year medical student at Howard University College of Medicine who is deeply passionate about neurosurgery. Born and raised in central Connecticut, Sierra began exploring her interest in neuroscience early in the Raskin Lab at Trinity College creating Spanish Language tools to assess prospective memory. Her dedication to the community and neuroscience has been recognized after winning the prestigious Undergraduate Outstanding Service Award at Syracuse University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Psychology. At Howard, Sierra demonstrates leadership and her commitment to service, gaining positions such as president of her Student Interest Group in Neurology and AAP Liaison. These efforts culminated in awards such as the Pioneer Leadership and Service Scholarship at Howard and the Medical Student Diversity Scholarship presented by the American Academy of Neurology. Currently, she is engaged in neurosurgical comparative outcome research at Howard University Hospital, with several presentations to disseminate her results. Outside of medicine, Sierra nurtures her creativity by exploring new restaurants with friends and family, playing trombone, and building intricate Lego models. Sierra plans to take a research year before applying for a neurosurgery residency, aiming to pioneer as the first medical professional in her family.
