Michael Lemonick is a second-year medical student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, NY. A Philadelphia native, Michael graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with distinction in 2015 with a Bachelor's of Science in mathematics. While at Annapolis, he was selected as a finalist for both the Rhodes and Marshall Scholarships, studied abroad in London and Istanbul, and played on the men's varsity soccer team. He was selected to pursure immediate graduate studies as an Émile-Boutmy international scholar at the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po Paris), where he completed a bilingual master's degree in international public management. During this time, he was selected as a Kathryn Davis Fellow for Peace at Middlebury College's Language Schools. Michael subsequently reported for duty onboard USS Donald Cook (DDG-75), a guided-missile destroyer stationed in Rota, Spain. Onboard Donald Cook, Michael completed five deployments - three of which as the ship’s Navigator - that totaled over 25 months at sea. He was the first Navigator to sail an American warship to the Faroe Islands since the Cold War, and he was part of a group of ships to sail along the north coast of Russia in the Barents Sea for the first time since the Cold War.
Michael finished in military service as an Naval ROTC instructor at The Citadel in Charleston, SC. He left active duty in 2023 and now pursues his medical studies with the hope of treating patients as a neurosurgeon. He is a Patt Tillman Scholar and recipient of the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
