Dr. Gianluca Scalia is an Italian neurosurgeon recognized for his expertise in cranial and spinal surgery, as well as his significant contributions to scientific research. He currently serves at ARNAS Garibaldi Hospital in Catania, where he plays a key role in treating complex neurological conditions. His academic background is distinguished by excellence, having earned a Master’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Catania with top honors, followed by his medical license and specialization in Neurosurgery at the University of Messina, both completed with the highest distinctions. He is also pursuing a PhD in "Innovative Technologies in Biomedical Sciences" at the University of Enna Kore, focusing on integrating advanced technologies into neurosurgical practice.
Throughout his career, he has gained extensive clinical and surgical experience. Since 2022, he has held a permanent position as a neurosurgeon at ARNAS Garibaldi Hospital in Catania, following years of specialized training and residency at leading hospitals, including the Garibaldi-Nesima National and High-Specialty Hospital in Catania and the "G. Martino" University Hospital in Messina. His dedication to advancing neurosurgical techniques led him to complete a Level II Master’s in Surgical Approaches to the Cranio-Cervical Junction at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, further refining his expertise in spinal and skull base surgery.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Scalia is a prolific researcher and scientific author, contributing to more than 160 international publications indexed in Scopus, ORCID, and Web of Science. His research focuses on cutting-edge topics such as neuro-oncology, minimally invasive and navigation-assisted neurosurgery, and complex spinal procedures. He has co-authored several high-impact papers, collaborating with leading experts in the field to develop innovative surgical approaches and improve patient outcomes. His work is widely recognized, reflecting his commitment to the continuous advancement of neurosurgery through evidence-based practice.
In addition to his medical and research expertise, Dr. Scalia is an active member of various prestigious professional organizations, including the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS), the Italian Society of Neurosurgery (SINCH), and the AO Spine Foundation.
