Resident Physician
Mayo Clinic Neurosurgery AZ
My name is Rawad Abbas, MD current PGY-2 resident at Mayo Clinic AZ.
My primary interest lies in the treatment of vascular conditions, particularly intracranial aneurysms, and in advancing our understanding of how different vascular interventions can affect patient outcomes. I am deeply invested in conducting outcome studies that explore the effectiveness of various treatment strategies, with the goal of refining our approach to care and improving long-term results for patients facing complex neurovascular challenges. My goal is to become an academic vascular neurosugeron.
My fascination with the brain and its intricate vascular network began at a young age, which ultimately led me to pursue a career in neurosurgery. The complexity of the human brain, combined with the challenges posed by vascular disorders, has motivated me to dedicate my career to this field. As I continue my residency training, I aim to blend my clinical skills with research to make meaningful contributions to the management of vascular conditions and help shape the future of neurosurgical care.
In addition to my clinical and research pursuits, I have a range of personal interests that keep me grounded and focused. One of my passions is playing the piano. Music has always been a creative outlet for me, and it provides a valuable escape from the demands of medical training. I also enjoy reading, whether it’s delving into medical literature or exploring other topics that pique my interest. Books allow me to broaden my perspective, which is essential for both my personal and professional growth.
Sports also play a significant role in my life, and I am especially passionate about soccer and ping pong. Both sports allow me to stay active, sharpen my competitive spirit, and foster a sense of teamwork. Soccer, in particular, has taught me important lessons in strategy, collaboration, and resilience—qualities that are crucial for success in medicine and in life.
As I continue my journey in neurosurgery, my goal is to contribute to both the clinical and academic aspects of the field. I am committed to advancing our understanding of vascular interventions, particularly for intracranial aneurysms, through research that focuses on patient outcomes.
In all that I do, I strive to maintain a balance between my professional ambitions and personal interests, as I believe that both are integral to my growth as a physician and as a person.
