Assistant
Hospital Universitario de Canarias, Spain
I am a Spanish neurosurgeon at the Hospital Universitario de Canarias in Tenerife (Spain). I finished my degree in Medicine at the University of La Laguna in 2009 and I started the neurosurgery residency at the Neurosurgery Department of the Hospital Universitario de Canarias in 2010. I finished my residency program with an honourable mention in 2015 and started working in the Department of Neurosurgery the same year. I have also passed the European Board Examination in Neurological Surgery (the last exam in March, 2018). My healthcare activity is focused on adult neurooncology (including cranial base procedures), vascular neurosurgery and spine surgery. Part of my surgical training was completed at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Montpellier. As far as my research experience is concerned, I obtained my Ph.D. at the University of La Laguna. My main research interests are related to neuroimaging and clinical neuroscience. I belong to the Neurochemistry and Neuroimaging research group of the University of La Laguna and I recently founded (with other two researchers) a new research group at the same University called Clinical Neuroscience of which I am the coordinator.
Regarding my teaching experience, I am an elected member of the Teaching Committee of Hospital Universitario de Canarias. After concluding my residency program, I was designated as Teaching Coordinator at the same Hospital. Over the last three years I have been involved in the creation and development of a teaching project for the acquisition of general competences in the residents of my hospital. I have experience in the management and organization of training courses and seminars for residents. Furthermore, I have been involved in pre-graduated teaching in the field of Neurosurgery and Human Phsysiology. In 2017, I became Associate Professor of the Health Science School at the University of La Laguna.
