MD Candidate, Class of 2027
Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia
Catherine Wang is a second-year medical student at the University of British Columbia. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Honors Physiology at McGill University.
At UBC, Catherine has worked under the mentorship of Dr. Serge Makarenko in the Division of Neurosurgery at Vancouver General Hospital. Her current research focus on evaluating the advisability of adjuvant radiation for management of spheno-orbital meningiomas, as well as the role of surgical intervention for Duret hemorrhages.
Catherine’s academic interests also extend to understanding how socioeconomic and geographic barriers affect access to care in neuro-oncology. Her recently proposed research explores how rurality impacts access to adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy for high-grade glioma patients in British Columbia—a study aimed at promoting more equitable healthcare delivery across urban and remote populations.
With a deep commitment to evidence-based medicine, healthcare accessibility, and academic inquiry, Catherine aspires to pursue a career as a clinician-scientist, integrating research, education, and policy advocacy to improve patient outcomes.
