My name is Anas Khan. I am a recent PhD graduate and am now in my 4th year at University of Alabama Heersink School of Medicine. I have long been interested in understanding how the brain functions. My PhD work was my introduction to human cognitive neuroscience during which I used intracranial electrodes placed in patients with Parkinson Disease during awake DBS surgery to understand the neural mechanisms of decision making and cognitive control. My long-term passion is to understand the mechanisms of learning and memory in humans. I hope to become a neurosurgeon where I can use the discoveries we make in the laboratory to design more effective therapeutics for the diseases that impact memory.
