Medical Student
William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine, US
My name is Mr. Michael Kent Coffin III, and I hold a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Psychology. I am a medical student at William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
I grew up in Farmersburg, Indiana, a small town where higher education was not a common pursuit. I had an early interest in understanding how humans functioned, from physiology to behavior, which led me to study both Neuroscience and Psychology at Indiana University. After completing my degree, I worked as an EMT in emergency and transport services, gaining firsthand experience in acute patient care. I also worked in a waste-to-energy facility and later as a behavioral therapist for children with autism, where I further developed my understanding of patient interaction and cognitive development. A year later, I began medical school to further expand my knowledge and clinical experience.
I have engaged in retrospective studies in spine surgery, focusing on surgical outcomes in high-volume practices. These projects have examined sacral dome osteotomy for high-grade spondylolisthesis, lateral corpectomy approaches, and L4-L5 prone lateral lumbar interbody fusion (pLLIF). The research provides additional insight into surgical techniques, radiographic measurements, and procedural outcomes.
