Pat Pema is a medical student at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, expected to graduate in April 2027. He earned his Bachelor’s in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology from Emory University, where he developed a strong foundation in human physiology, behavioral neuroscience, and advanced neurobiology. His academic and clinical experiences have fueled his passion for neurosurgery and research.
Patrick has worked extensively as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with Joffe Emergency Services, Puckett EMS, and X-Factor EMS, gaining hands-on experience in emergency response, patient transport, and event medical staffing. His ability to perform under pressure and provide critical care in diverse settings has strengthened his clinical acumen.
As a dedicated researcher, Patrick co-leads the RAIN Neurosurgery Research Lab, where he designs and executes studies focused on neurosurgical advancements. His work explores innovative approaches in neurosurgery, contributing to the growing body of literature on surgical techniques and patient outcomes. Additionally, he has conducted research under Dr. Hyder Jinnah, investigating dystonia and genetic disorders, including Lesch-Nyhan disease, through patient interviews, data analysis, and stem cell research.
Patrick was also a standout athlete on Emory University’s Varsity Swim Team, earning multiple NCAA DIII championships and accolades, including team MVP and CSCAA All-American honors. His leadership extends to medical student organizations, serving as President of the Neurosurgery and Organ Transplant Interest Groups at HMSOM. With a strong foundation in clinical medicine, research, and leadership, Patrick is committed to making a meaningful impact in the field of neurosurgery.
