Orthopedic Spine Surgeon
Ortho Northeast
Board certified orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Micah Smith, joined Ortho NorthEast’s SpineONE team in 2013. He has a particular interest in cervical spine, deformity, and minimally invasive surgery. He employs minimally and less invasive principles to his surgical approach to spine surgery as appropriate, including XLIF and percutaneous fixation. He also utilizes motion preserving technology in the cervical spine with disc replacement surgery when indicated. He does complex deformity using both traditional open and minimally invasive techniques. He performs super minimally invasive fusions that allow patients to go home the same day as surgery and also does endoscopic spine surgery and outpatient surgery.
His Spine Fellowship training at the University of Utah was a unique experience where he worked with both spine fellowship-trained neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons. This has afforded him the ability to combine both disciplines into his own spine practice. He has research experience regarding herniated discs and has won awards for his research in spine deformity and spine trauma. He is a member of the North American Spine Society and AO Spine.
Dr. Smith has passion for serving as a missionary and has volunteered with the Christian Medical and Dental Association as an international medical missionary in Nicaragua and Honduras numerous times, and has served on the Board of Trustees. Additionally, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, cycling, boating, snow and water skiing, soccer, and reading.
