M.D.-Ph.D. Student
Mayo Clinic
My name is Juan Rojas Cabrera, and I am a third-year MD-PhD student at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. I was born in Vista Hermosa, a small village in central Mexico, and immigrated to the United States with my family when I was four years old. Minnesota has been our home for the past 23 years. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Winona State University and worked as a registered nurse in long-term care for three years. During this time, I also completed post-baccalaureate coursework and conducted research at the Mayo Clinic under the mentorship of Dr. Kendall H. Lee. My research focuses on understanding the neurobiology of addiction and depression, with an emphasis on how neuromodulation can serve as both a research tool and a therapeutic intervention. Clinically, I am particularly interested in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, with a special focus on applying these techniques to neuropsychiatric conditions.
