attending physician
Mackay Memorial Hospital, TW
I am Chao-Kai Hu, M.D., Ph.D., a general neurosurgeon at Mackay Memorial Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan, with a specialization in deep brain stimulation (DBS), functional neurosurgery, and neuroimaging analysis. My career has been dedicated to advancing surgical techniques for Parkinson’s disease and establishing a functional neurosurgery team at my hospital to enhance patient care.
I earned my M.D. from Chung Shan Medical University and later obtained a Ph.D. from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, focusing on biological science and neurotechnology. My neurosurgical training was completed at National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH), where I served as chief resident and gained extensive experience in complex neurosurgical procedures. I also pursued international training at UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco, further refining my expertise in cutting-edge neurosurgical techniques.
After completing my training, I worked as an attending physician at NTUH Hsinchu Branch for two years before joining Mackay Memorial Hospital, where I have been a senior attending neurosurgeon. My practice includes DBS, spine surgery, traumatic brain surgery, vascular surgery, and tumor surgery, allowing me to provide comprehensive neurosurgical care.
Currently, I am pursuing a one-year fellowship at Toronto Western Hospital, focusing on DBS and movement disorder surgery. My research explores probabilistic mapping and connectome analysis to refine surgical targets and develop more effective, personalized treatment strategies. By integrating neuroimaging with functional neurosurgery, I aim to enhance the precision and efficacy of neuromodulation therapies.
