Yan Zhou is a third-year medical student from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She obtained her bachelor's degree in neuroscience from the University of California, Los Angeles, where she spent four years working in Dr. Daniel Lu's lab under the department of neurosurgery. In medical school, she continues working on several spine studies under the mentorship of Dr. Lu. She is leading one project comparing the MRI artifacts caused by different types of artificial disc implants, with the goal of guiding the selection of implants to achieve a balance between high clinical performance and minimal artifact. At the University of Colorado, Yan is conducting both basic science and clinical research under the mentorship of Dr. Todd Hankinson, a pediatric neurosurgeon, to investigate the disease features and biology of adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma, aiming to develop new treatments to improve patient outcomes. As an aspiring neurosurgeon, Yan is passionate about pursuing academic neurosurgery, integrating clinical practice and translational research to improve patient care.
