Brayan Corona-Macedo – Neurosurgery Researcher and Advocate for Equality in Healthcare. [Medical student at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill]
First name pronounced: “Brian”
My name is Brayan Corona-Macedo, and I am a first-generation medical student from the close-knit community of Albemarle, North Carolina. My professional journey is driven by a deep passion for neuro-oncology, particularly in the study and treatment of glioblastomas. This passion ignited early in my medical career when I had the privilege of collaborating with renowned neurosurgeons at both the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University. During my time there, I engaged in pioneering research focused on brain tumor epidemiology, testing for novel genetic mutations, and innovative surgical approaches. These experiences ignited a profound fascination with the complexities of the human brain and solidified my commitment to advancing the field of neurosurgery. It was through this immersive experience that I found my true calling— dedicating my life to neuro-oncology. I aspire to bring new hope to those affected by brain and spinal cancers, working relentlessly toward better treatment outcomes through cutting-edge research and surgical precision.
As a child of Mexican immigrants, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by underserved communities in accessing high-quality healthcare. These experiences have shaped my values and fueled my dedication to making a meaningful impact. I am committed to advancing both the science of neurosurgery and the accessibility of innovative care, especially for underrepresented populations in North Carolina. It is my goal not only to contribute to the field with groundbreaking research but also to break down the barriers preventing vulnerable communities from receiving the advanced treatments they deserve. With a relentless drive to serve and transform lives, I am focused on pushing the boundaries of possibility in the fight against brain and spinal cancers. I firmly believe in the power of perseverance, compassion, and innovative solutions, and I am determined to deliver these values to the patients who need them most. Every step of my journey is dedicated to honoring those who have inspired me and striving to make an enduring impact in the realm of neuro-oncology.
