Amanda Roehrkasse, MD/PhD is a PGY-3 Neurosurgery Resident and aspiring Neurosurgeon-scientist at the National Institutes of Health. She was born and raised in Hildesheim, Germany and completed her Medical school training and doctorate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Oklahoma. Her dissertation work focused on and important family of vasoactive peptides - the calcitonin gene related peptide hormone family. She used Xray crystallography to determine molecular contacts dictating ligand specificity and ligand-meditated G protein coupling. She received an NIH F30 fellowship grant to complete the work and her dissertation was honored with the outstanding dissertation award at the University of Oklahoma. She is nearing completion of her Junior Residency and is interested in pursuing a career as a Vascular Neurosurgeon with a research interest in normal and pathologic molecular mechanisms that govern cerebral blood flow.
