Shareef Shaheen, MD/PhD Candidate, Penn State College of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery. Shareef Shaheen completed his Bacholrs Degree at the University of Washington in Seattle, and completed his research training at various institutions, including Wistar Institute, University of Washington, and Duke University. He is doing his dissertation research focusing on utilizing persistent viral CNS infection to better understand antiviral immune signaling. His research is supported by an F31 fellowship from NINDS, earning a top 1st percentile impact score.
Committed to a career as an academic neurosurgeon-scientist, Shareef aims to integrate molecular therapeutics into neurosurgical practice, with a particular interest in neuroinfectious diseases, host-pathogen interactions, gene therapies. He has extensive experience in vaccine development, molecular diagnostics, and targeted therapeutics, bridging the gap between neurosurgery, immunology, and industry.
