Arka N. Mallela, MD MS, joined the University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurological Surgery residency program in July 2018 after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, earning his MD and MS in translational research. He received his undergraduate degrees from the Vagelos Scholars Program at the University of Pennsylvania, completing a BA in biophysics, biochemistry, and philosophy and an MS in biological chemistry.
Dr. Mallela has a strong interest in the intersection of electrophysiology, neuropsychology, and neuroimaging. He is currently interested in utilizing these tools to understand the mechanisms of expressive language production and how language is disrupted inn a variety of neurological diseases. For his work, Dr. Mallela has received multiple awards, including the Stryker CNS Tumor Award, the American Epilepsy Society Fellows Program, the Burroughs Wellcome Foundation Physician Scientist Incubator Program, the Stuart Rowe Society Award, among others.
Dr. Mallela has accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Rush University Medical Center in Summer 2025, directing the epilepsy surgery and brain mapping programs.
