Dr. Shiro Horisawa, MD, is the Director of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery at Tokyo Women's Medical University. He specializes in advanced neurosurgical techniques, including deep brain stimulation, radiofrequency thermal coagulation, focused ultrasound, and spinal cord stimulation. With over 1,500 stereotactic brain surgeries performed and more than 60 international publications as first or corresponding author, he is a recognized leader in the field. Dr. Horisawa has made significant contributions to Focal Hand Dystonia research, including studies on ventro-oral thalamotomy, Gamma Knife thalamotomy, and MR-guided Focused Ultrasound thalamotomy. His current research focuses on deep brain stimulation of the cerebellum and targeted interventions on the pallidothalamic tract, exploring their effects on movement disorders, epilepsy, and psychiatric conditions. He has received numerous international awards for his contributions to functional neurosurgery and has been recognized for his innovative research. Since 2017, he has served as the youngest-ever Board Member of the World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery (WSSFN). He is also actively involved in developing brain-machine interfaces and artificial intelligence applications for movement disorder treatments.
