Neurosurgery APP
Stormont Vail Health
Angela Henderlong has been a Neurosurgical Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for the past 7 years at StormontVail Health and has been an APP Fellow with the American Association of Neurological Surgeons for 6 years. StormontVail is a level 2 trauma center located in Topeka, Kansas. She works in a general neurosurgery practice which handles a variety of complex cases with the exception of aneurysms.
Before becoming a neurosurgical APP in 2017, she assisted with the creation of the RN lead rapid response team starting in 2015 at StormontVail, and was an active participant until she began her APP career. This required her to exercise independent nursing judgement in management of patients with complex health problems in addition to helping staff nurses throughout the organization in triaging urgent and emergent situations. Participation on this newly developed and integral team required obtaining and maintaining her Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification.
Prior to joining the rapid response team, Angela started her nursing career in 2011 as a surgical/trauma intensive care nurse. This required providing care to critically ill and unstable patients whether they were in a trauma or underwent a surgical procedure. This ranged from taking care of post operative coronary bypass patients, continous renal replacement therapy, and severe tramatic brain injury patients.
She completed her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at Kansas State University. After finishing her undergraduate degree at Kansas State University, she then completed her Bachelor of Science of Nursing at Oklahoma City University which was an accelerated nursing program. She then furthered her career by accomplishing her Doctorate of Nursing Practice for Acute Care Nurse Practitioner at Wichita State University.
