Gregory J. Zipfel, MD is the Ralph G. Dacey Professor of Neurosurgery and Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at Washington University in St. Louis. He also serves as the Neurosurgeon-in-Chief at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He focuses his surgical practice on stroke, cerebrovascular disease, and skull base tumors; and his research focuses on the molecular mechanisms and novel therapeutics for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, vascular contributions to dementia, and classification and management of dural arteriovenous fistulae. The latter includes serving as founder and lead investigator of CONDOR – the international CONsortium for Dural arteriovenous fistula Outcomes Research. He is the author of >250 peer-reviewed publications; has held continuous NIH funding since 2005 supporting his cerebrovascular research program; and serves as Principal Investigator of the K12-supported national Neurosurgeon Research Career Development Program and the R25 grant supporting neurosurgery and neurology resident research at Washington University.
