Shovan Bhatia is a third year Medical Student in the Physician Scientist Training Program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He graduated highest honors with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in May 2022. At Georgia Tech, Shovan developed a keen interest in performing research occurring at the intersection of neuroscience and engineering for which he was awarded the National Barry Goldwater Scholarship. At Georgia Tech, Shovan worked on a Capstone project with his classmates to develop a novel carotid closure device that is currently undergoing FDA testing. Prior to matriculating into medical school, Shovan spent a research year under Drs. Michael Ivan, Ashish Shah and Ricardo Komotar at the University of Miami Brain Tumor Initiative where he developed a novel machine learning algorithm to predict progression of glioblastoma using MR Spectroscopy. Shovan wants to pursue a career as a neurosurgeon-scientist and is currently interested in studying and developing innovative technologies to improve the lives of people living with neurological disorders. Outside of work, Shovan enjoys playing and watching sports, exploring Pittsburgh’s food scene, and listening to house music.
