Monique Mitchell, MD, currently serves as a Research Fellow under the direction and mentorship of Dr. Amir H. Faraji at Clinical Innovations Laboratory in the Department of Neurosurgery at Houston Methodist. Dr. Mitchell earned her medical degree from Estacio de Sa University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she served as Vice President of the Neurology Student Interest Group. After completing medical school, Dr. Mitchell held positions with two family medicine clinics and with the Department of Internal Medicine & Emergency at two municipal hospitals in Rio de Janeiro before moving to the U.S. to further her career in neurosciences.
Dr. Mitchell completed a Neurosurgery Observership focusing on minimally invasive brain and spine approach with Dr. Shon Cook at Keyhole Brain and Spine and at Community Hospital in Oklahoma City before beginning her current assignment at Houston Methodist. She is now collaborating in 11 research studies focusing on various aspects of neurosurgery under Dr. Faraji’s leadership. She is also collaborating in five other research studies under the guidance and mentorship of Dr. Raphael Bertani and Dr. Wellingson Paiva at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, in an international collaboration with Faraji Laboratory at Houston Methodist.
Dr. Mitchell plans to pursue a residency in neurosurgery and holds a particular interest in the complexity and challenges of addressing traumatic brain injury. Dr. Mitchell and her husband reside in the Houston area with their three-year-old son.
