MAJ Victoria E. Fischer, MD, MS, is an active duty officer in the United States Army and a PGY-7 neurosurgery resident at UT Health San Antonio, in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Fischer received her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington D.C. as a recipient of the Army’s Health Professions Scholarship Program. She was subsequently chosen by the Army to complete a neurosurgery residency in a DoD-VA funded position at UT Health San Antonio. During her residency, she has published in both the preclinical and clinical realms. For her PGY-5 research year, Dr. Fischer was selected as a postdoctoral fellow on the NIH-funded T32 training grant in Occlusive Vascular Disease at UTHSCSA during which time she used preclinical rodent models to investigate the role of the sympathetic nervous system in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage-induced vasospasm and delayed cerebral ischemia. Her preliminary findings of this preclinical research were then further funded by a translational grant awarded by the UTHSCSA Institute for Integration of Medicine and Science / Clinical and Translational Science Award Pilot Project and thus, continued through her PGY-6/-7 years.
