    Jesús Lafuente, MD, FRCSEd, FRCS Glas, PhD, is a consultant neurosurgeon at the Hospital Universitario del Mar, Barcelona, Spain. He performed his neurosurgical residency and internships were at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen's Square, London, UK, where he also spent one year as Spinal Fellow completing his PhD. He is currently director of the Spine Unit at Hospital del Mar, and he has recently been appointed Associate Professor at the UAB. He is Past President of the European association of Neurological societies (EANS), and he is the President of the Catalan Society of Neurosurgery. He also obtained a Master in hospital administration with the thesis “Reorganization of neurosurgery in Catalunya.” He served in the bylaws chapter of the WFNS for 8 years during Peter Black and Nelson Oyesiku chairmanship. His special interests include skull base neurosurgery, chiari and syringomyelia, spinal deformity, spinal tumors, degenerative disease and has performed different surgical missions through various NGO´s in different Sub-Saharan countries.
