Marcelo Costa is a second-year medical student at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, passionately pursuing a career in neurosurgery. Originally from Brazil, Marcelo moved to the United States at the age of 15, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the opportunities available in his new home. His journey in medicine began at the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Medical Sciences, laying the foundation for his interest in the complexities of the human brain and spine.
Marcelo’s dedication to neurosurgery is evident through his leadership as President of the Neurosurgical Interest Group/AANS Chapter at Wright State, where he organizes hands-on suture clinics, journal clubs, and residency panels for aspiring neurosurgeons. His research focuses on neurosurgical oncology, neurosurgical outcomes, AI in clinical decision-making, and global neurosurgery disparities, with multiple publications and presentations at national conferences. Marcelo plans to pursue a residency in neurosurgery with the goal of specializing in neurosurgical oncology, combining his passion for neurosurgery with a commitment to advancing cancer care. His dedication to mentorship, advocacy, and innovation continues to drive his pursuit of excellence in this challenging and rewarding field.
