Medical Student
WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine
Erik B. Philipson is a first-year medical student at the WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine and a dedicated researcher in the field of neurotrauma. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Washington, where he also worked as a research assistant at the Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center. He has led multiple investigations into the long-term effects of TBI, disparities in functioning post-injury, and the effectiveness of return-to-learn programs for students recovering from concussion. His current research interests center on improving outcomes and quality of life following neurotrauma, with a particular focus on the assessment of existing protocols and the development of novel interventions.
Outside of medicine, Erik is an avid skier, cyclist, and amateur radio operator. He is currently training for a full Ironman, which he hopes to complete this coming summer. He is also an active King County Search and Rescue volunteer – serving as both a team leader and a member of the organization's governing board.
