Emmy Award-winning Journalist
Independent Journalist
Fifteen-time Emmy Award-winning journalist Teresa Rodríguez is a seasoned broadcast journalist who has broken many barriers in her profession. In her 30 plus year career, she has covered breaking news in the United States, Latin America, and abroad. She has done countless investigative reports and specials as well as interviewed a long list of politicians, newsmakers, celebrities and athletes, primarily for Univision, the largest Spanish-language broadcast television network in the United States.
Rodríguez joined Univision in 1982 as co-anchor of the national newscast, becoming the first woman ever to host a national primetime Spanish language newscast. She went on to become the executive producer, creator and host of Univision's first news magazine program, “Portada,” which aired throughout the continental U.S. and in 18 Latin American countries. Later, she was named Executive Producer and Host of “Aqui y Ahora con Teresa Rodriguez,” an Emmy-award winning series of newsmagazine specials which became the model for what would become the network’s longest running weekly news magazine show, “Aqui y Ahora.”
For over 20 years, she was the co-anchor of that primetime award-winning program, “Aquí y Ahora,” (Here and Now), in which she did long format stories and exclusive interviews with high profile individuals on issues ranging from immigration, the border, education, gang violence, mass shootings, sex trafficking, wrongful convictions and the drug cartels, to name a few topics.
Most recently, she was the spokesperson for Univision’s corporate initiative entitled “Univisionarios,” which celebrated the positive contributions of Hispanics in this country. The series shared the personal stories behind some of the most successful Latino business, medical and sports figures who are now paying it forward and helping future generations feel proud about their roots, heritage, customs and language.
In March 2025, Rodriguez joined “Latinas Talk Latinas,” an online educational video series produced by the National Museum of American History and The National Museum of the American Latino that explores the history of Spanish language media in the United States. She is described by the Smithsonian as one of the women communicators who has “shaped the narrative for millions of viewers as they covered national and local historic events on Telemundo and Univision.”
She is the recipient of a George Foster Peabody Award and a Silver Angel Award for Excellence in Media. She was named to the 2013 Power Women list by New York Moves Magazine and was recognized by The Hollywood Reporter for having one of the top 10 highest Q scores for Spanish-speaking U.S. Latinos. She was also honored with the Silver Circle Award from the Suncoast, Florida chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. In 2016, she received a GLAAD award for her special, “En Cuerpo Ajeno,” (“In a Foreign Body”), which examined the lives of four transgender individuals. It was the first time that Univision dedicated an hour of prime-time programming to the topic. In 2017, she won another GLAAD outstanding journalism award for her story on a well-known Venezuelan singer and her transgender son. In 2019, she also won a Bravo award as “Journalist of the year” from the New York chapter of the Hispanic Public Relations Association.
She is the best-selling author of the book, “The Daughters of Juarez: A True Story of Serial Murder South of the Border,” based on her more than 10 years of investigative reports on the abduction, rape, and murder of hundreds of women in Juarez, Mexico. The book is required reading in some universities in the U.S. as it relates to the Mexico-U.S. border. She is also a contributing author of “Count on Me: Tales of Sisterhood and Fierce Friendships,” a collection of essays.
From 2018 to mid-2019, Teresa had her own English-language weekly podcast, “Stories Beyond the Headlines,” covering national and international stories from crime and politics to immigration, the economy, medicine as well as interviews with newsmakers, celebrities and athletes. In November 2018, “Stories Beyond the Headlines,” was awarded “Best English Language Podcast,” by the Latin Podcast Awards. The podcast was available on @RevolverPodcasts @Spotify @GooglePlay and @Uforia.
