Assistant Professor
Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford
Laura Prolo, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery and the Chambers-Okamura Faculty Scholar in Pediatric Neurosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. After receiving her A.B. in Biology and Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis, she completed her MD and PhD in Neuroscience from Stanford University. She remained at Stanford for Neurosurgery residency, then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery at University of Washington/Seattle Children’s Hospital. Her clinical focus is on pediatric brain tumors, and she is the neurosurgery partner for the GD2-CAR T cell therapy trial at Stanford for diffuse midline gliomas which is hoping to change the standard of care for this devastating disease. Dr. Prolo’s research laboratory focuses on: 1) MR imaging-based machine learning strategies to predict brain tumor type and disease course, 2) Identifying molecular pathways necessary for tumor cell invasion and 3) Chronotherapy as a strategy to increase the effectiveness of chemotherapy in pediatric brain tumors. The ultimate goal of her research program is to advance our understanding of childhood brain tumors to develop novel therapeutic strategies.
