Tokyo Rosai Hospital
AKIO Morita, MD, PhD is currently the Director General of Tokyo Rosai Hospital, Japan Organization of Occupational Health and Safety and professor emeritus at the Nippon Medical School. He graduated from University of Tokyo, Faculty of Medicine in 1982 and was trained at the University of Tokyo(1982-1989) under Profs. K Sano, K Takakura, T Fukushima and at the Mayo Clinic(1989-96) under Profs. TM Sundt, DG Piepgras and was appointed as the Assistant Professor at the George Washington University(Chairman: Prof. LN Sekhar) in 1997. During 1998~2005, he was appointed as the Associate and later Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo, Department of Neurosurgery and he served as the Chairman of Department of Neurological Surgery, Nippon Medical School from 2013 till 2023. He served as the Assistant Secretary (2017~209) and the Secretary General of World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (2019~2023) and he is currently the vice president of AASNS (2022~).
He is board certified as neurosurgeon in Japan and in the USA. His specialty is cerebrovascular surgery and cranial base surgery. His research interests are in the field of epidemiological and biological study of cerebral aneurysms and robot-mechatronics applied in micro-neurosurgery. He published more than 300 English peer review articles including NEJM (2), JAMA Neurology (1), Lancet Neurology (1), etc. He is the corresponding author and investigator of the Unruptured Cerebral Aneurysm Study in Japan (UCAS Japan).
