Allan J Belzberg MD FRCSC occupies the George J Heuer Chair in Neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He is Professor of Neurosurgery, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He directs the Peripheral Nerve Surgery programs at Johns Hopkins Hospital, the Kennedy Krieger Institute and All Children’s Hospital. He was born and raised in Montreal Canada, graduated from the University of British Columbia with honors, attended the University of Calgary for medical school and residency, and McGill University for internship. He was awarded the prestigious McLaughlin Scholarship to travel to Johns Hopkins for fellowship and has remained there for his entire career.
Dr. Belzberg ‘s research has focused on neural regeneration, pain physiology and tumors of the peripheral nervous system. He has been awarded NIH/DOD grants and has been extensively published in both basic and clinical science. He co-directs the Neurosurgery Pain Research Institute which is funded through philanthropy having raised over 80 million dollars. He has served as visiting professor to numerous institutions, received multiple research awards and served as President of the American Society for Peripheral Nerve.
