Jason Huang, MD, FAANS, FACS, is a board-certified neurosurgeon and Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, Texas. He also serves as a tenured Professor of Neurosurgery at Baylor College of Medicine. Known for his expertise in peripheral nerve surgery, neurotrauma, and the management of complex spinal disorders, Dr. Huang holds the Helen Vosburg McCrillus Plummer and Robert Edward Lee Plummer, Jr. Chair in Neurosurgery. Dr. Huang’s primary research interests focus on nervous system injury and repair, as well as neurotrauma. His laboratory has secured significant extramural research funding, including a prestigious R01 award from the National Institutes of Health, along with numerous grants from federal agencies and private foundations. In his general neurosurgery practice, Dr. Huang performs procedures for complex spinal disorders, brain tumors, and peripheral nerve disorders. He also treats patients with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and cerebrovascular diseases.
Dr. Huang earned his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed his neurosurgery residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is the author or co-author of over 200 peer-reviewed articles, numerous editorial reviews, and more than 20 book chapters. Additionally, he holds nine U.S. patents. Dr. Huang has served as an invited reviewer for multiple National Institutes of Health (NIH) Study Sections, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) research grants. He has chaired Scientific Review Panels for the DoD’s Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) 11 times between 2016 and 2025. From 2020 to 2021, Dr. Huang was elected President of the Texas Association of Neurological Surgeons, the second-largest state neurosurgical society in the United States.
