Associate Professor of Neurosurgery

Dr. Sandoval Bonilla is Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the CMN (The largest and busiest IMSS Medical Center of Mexico) by UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México), with a private practice at Médica Sur Hospital and NeurAlliance Group. His practice includes Epilepsy Surgery in adults and children, as well as Functional Neurosurgery and Neuro-Oncology with Intraoperative Brain Mapping and tumor resection in eloquent areas during awake craneotomy. He has developed interest in Neuromodulation with minimal invasive procedures such as vagus nerve stimulation, thalamic or hippocampal Deep Brain Stimulation and ablative procedures.
He is the founding member and Head of the Epilepsy Surgery and Brain Mapping Program at CMN. He is also the founding member and first President elected by direct vote of the Epilepsy Surgery Section of the Mexican Society of Neurological Surgery. He also has served as General Secretary of the Mexican Society of Neurological Surgery and has trained 13 generations of Neurosurgeons in Mexico and Latin America. Dr Sandoval Bonilla is Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgery and member of the International Society of Epilepsy Surgery, the World Society of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, the International Neuromodulation Society, the Mexican chapter of the International League Against Epilepsy and the Latin American Society of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery.
Dr. Sandoval Bonilla actively collaborates on publications and protocols in Mexico Sweden, Switzerland, and Germany. He also contributes to the promotion of constant innovation in Epilepsy Surgery, Surgery for Psychiatric Disorders, Chronic Pain Management and Intraoperative Brain Mapping for function preservation in tumoral resections, and social assistance for the protection of underprivileged or vulnerable populations.
