David D. Limbrick, Jr., M.D., Ph.D. is the James W. and Francis G. McGlothlin Chair and Professor and Chair of Neurosurgery at Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a pediatric neurosurgeon with aligned clinical and research interests in improving the diagnosis and treatment of children with Chiari type I malformation, syringomyelia, and other disorders of cerebrospinal fluid including hydrocephalus. He serves as the Principal Investigator for the national 42-institution Park-Reeves Syringomyelia Research Consortium, which focuses on improving long-term outcomes for children with CM and SM, and the cluster randomized controlled trial Posterior Fossa Decompression with or without Duraplasty for Chiari Type I Malformation and Syringomyelia. He also serves as Chair of Biospecimens and Neuroimaging for the Hydrocephalus Clinical Research Network (HCRN) and mPI on the HCRN’s Endoscopic versus Shunt Treatment of Hydrocephalus in Infants, a multicenter RCT comparing shunting with endoscopic third ventriculostomy with choroid plexus cauterization (ETV-CPC). His research efforts are currently funded through the NIH, PCORI, DOD, and several foundations. He has published >250 peer-reviewed journal articles and 15 book chapters, and he has given hundreds of national and international presentations. He serves on the editorial board of Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics, Neurosurgery: Practice, and Fluids and Barriers of the CNS. He holds leadership roles in various neurosurgical associations, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS)/Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) Joint Section for Pediatric Neurosurgery and the Accreditation Council for Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellowships (ACPNF) and serves on the Board of Directors of the Hydrocephalus Association and Bobby Jones Chiari & Syringomyelia Foundation.
