Neurosurgery Resident

Sherwin A. Tavakol, MD MPH, is a 4th year neurological surgery resident at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC). He completed his undergraduate studies in French langugae and literature at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with college honors. Afterwards, he moved on to pursue his medical education at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC), where he graduated as part of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) and Gold Humanism honors societies. In between his medical studies at USC, Dr. Tavakol completed his Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with an emphasis in biostatistics at Harvard University. Dr. Tavakol is a board member of PASHA, a non-profit global health organization focusing on health-systems strengthening primarily in Central Asia. Before and during residency, he has participated in and spearheaded a multitude of scholarly endeavors, publishing research projects on topics such as brain tumors, spinal cord injury, global health, cerebrovascular disease, aging, and resident mental health. He hopes to pursue subspecialty training in neuro-oncology after residency.
