Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates
Paul K. Kim, MD is the Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte Campus, of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He also serves as the Executive Medical Director for SpineFirst, a partnership between Atrium Health and Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates (CNSA), leading comprehensive spine care, including both outpatient and inpatient facility-based spine service lines throughout the Greater Charlotte Region. In addition, he is a member of the Executive Committee of the Southeast Region Spine Center of Excellence for Advocate Atrium Health. He is also involved in leadership roles with IRCAD North America based in Charlotte, currently serving as Deputy Service Line Director and member of the Scientific Committee for the Neurosurgery Service Line, as well as Clinical Director of Experimental Education for Advanced Spine Surgery. He has been involved as Lead Unaffiliated Neurotrauma Consultant (UNC) with the NFL for the Carolina Panthers, as well as serving as Medical Liaison/Consultant with NASCAR.
He serves on the CNSA Board of Directors, as well as the Board of Directors for Carolina Center for Specialty Surgery, the ambulatory surgery center for CNSA in partnership with Atrium Health. He graduated from medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical School in 2001 and completed his neurosurgery residency at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 2007. Following residency, he completed a spine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 2008. He joined CNSA thereafter and has practiced in the Greater Charlotte Region with Atrium Health over the past 16 years. His practice involves a broad range of spine surgery, from minimally invasive techniques to complex spinal deformity, with interest in the advancement of emerging technologies involving intraoperative navigation/robotic surgery, as well as spinal outcomes research through collaborative multicenter studies.
