Dr. Robert J. Dempsey is the Manucher Javid Professor and Chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Wisconsin. He specializes in cranial and brain stem neurosurgery and co-directs the U.W. Stroke Program. He has over 35 years of NIH funding, over 300 publications, an H-Index of 86 and over 100 research grants.
Dr. Dempsey is an award-winning educator and mentor, winning the “National Medical Student Teaching Award” and an annual resident research grant is named in his honor. He is Past-President of SNS and Chairs the Foundation for International Education in Neurological Surgery (FIENS).
Dr. Dempsey’s humanitarian projects are committed to training a generation of neurosurgeons in LMIC countries of Asia, Central America, South America, and Africa., in self-sustaining programs. He has received the Humanitarian Awards from AANS and Notre Dame and Distinguished Service Awards from the SNS and the University of Chicago and the 2022 Medal of Honor from the WFNS, noting a lifetime commitment to science, mentoring, neurosurgical service and education nationally and internationally.
