Professor, Pediatric Neurosurgery

Jeffrey P Blount MD MPH is a Pediatric Neurosurgeon at Children's of Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His academic interests include treatment of epilepsy in children, spina bifida, neurosurgical global health/public health and pediatric neurosurgery. Dr. Blount has done his entire career at UAB/Children's of Alabama and is very proud of the 25 Pediatric Neurosurgery fellows trained at UAB. He was the Division Director of the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery (2016-2024) and is now Director of Global Surgery for the UAB Department of Neurosurgery. He is the Chair of the Education Committee of the International Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery and the Senior Section Editor of the Journal of Neurosurgery- Pediatrics. He is the Director and Co-founder of the Global Alliance for Prevention of Spina Bifida (GAPSBIF) which received the AANS Humanitarian Award in 2024 in recognition of global efforts/progress in attaining broad fortification of food products with folic acid for the prevention of neural tube defects.
