Nasser El-Ghandour works as Professor of Neurosurgery in Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University. He was graduated from the same university in 1983, finished his residency in Cairo University Hospitals, and was awarded Master Degree in General Surgery in 1987, and Doctorate degree in Neurosurgery in 1991. He started to practice in the field of General Neurosurgery, and then worked as Professor of Neurosurgery in the Pediatric Hospital affiliated to Cairo University Hospitals [largest complex of hospitals in Africa and the Middle East, over 3000 beds], to be specialized in Pediatric Neurosurgery and Neuroendoscopy.
Prof El-Ghandour is Currently: Treasurer of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS), President of the Mediterranean Association of Neurological Surgeons (MANS), Editor In-Chief of the Pan Arab Journal of Neurosurgery (PAJN), President of the Egyptian Foundation of Neurological Surgery (EFNS), and Director of the African Neurosurgical Training Program at Cairo University.
He is Honorary President of the Egyptian Society of Neurological Surgeons (ESNS), Past Secretary of the Continental African Association of Neurosurgical Societies (CAANS), and Past Vice-President of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) At-Large.
He is an international member in the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), international fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), and active member in the International Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery (ISPN).
Prof El-Ghandour is Former Member in the Neuroendoscopy Committee and the WHO-WFNS Liaison Committee of the WFNS. He is Past President of Promotion Committee, High Council of all Egyptian Universities
He presented many talks in international meetings, published many articles in peer-reviewed international journals, authored five book chapters about intracranial endoscopy & skull base surgery. He contributed to the training & educating many young neurosurgeons through organizing many courses and hands-on workshops.
He is a member of the editorial board of many peer-reviewed international journals, and he is the Editor In-Chief of the Pan Arab Journal of Neurosurgery.
His subspecialty is Pediatric Neurosurgery and Neuroendoscopy, with a special interest in hydrocephalus, intraventricular and intracranial cysts, focusing on those cases of complex hydrocephalus which are the most difficult to treat.
