The AANS Distinguished Advocate Award recognizes an individual who has served as a strong advocate for neurosurgeons, their patients and the profession at the national, state or local level. Awardees have demonstrated a commitment to promoting sound legislative and regulatory health policy by consistently engaging in the legislative, regulatory and/or political processes.
Advocacy engagement includes, but is not limited to, contacting legislators/regulators; meeting with elected officials/candidates for office; leadership/participation on AANS advocacy/policy committees (e.g., Washington Committee, Coding and Reimbursement Committee, Neurosurgery PAC Board of Directors; Council of State Neurosurgical Societies); leadership/participation in state or local medical societies; contributing to the Neurosurgery PAC and hosting/organizing political candidate fundraisers; and social media engagement.
